World Renowned G.D. Vajra Wine Visits Linville Ridge
Located at an astounding 1300 feet of elevation in Northwest Italy, G.D. Vajra’s vineyard grapes ripen later than any other vineyard in the country. With the Alps setting to the west and the vineyards proximity to the Tanaro River, this creates accentuated thermal changes that are able to ripen the fruit slowly until perfection. This unique process is what gives G.D. Vajra’s its unrivaled elegant, fragrant and fruity aroma created by a particular aging capacity.
The process of creating what is known worldwide as a vineyard that produces a taste that is not only drinkable, but also enjoyable for any type of wine lover is rich with family history. The first vineyards were planted in the 1940’s and saw a halt as war spread throughout the country. Aldo Vaira then finished what his father started when he began the process of perfecting the wine making process in 1972, a process which was not complete until 1978 when the family introduced the world to their first vintage bottle.
Linville Ridge had the privilege of tasting G.D. Vajra wines on the evening of May 22, in View 180. Fifth generation family winemaker, Francesca Vaira traveled from Italy to present her family’s wine and explain where it came from and how it came to be what it is today. In addition to G.D. Vajra deep respect for heritage, they have an equally strong desire to innovate and continue to produce quality wine that is eminently drinkable for everyone!
